Alex Trebek | French, Canadian, Ukrainian

Alex Trebek worked as the host of the Canadian quiz program Reach for the Top in the mid-1960s. His first American television appearance was as the host of The Wizard of Odds, a short-lived game show that aired in 1973. He began hosting a revived version of the trivia game Jeopardy! in 1984.Trebek was born in Sudbury, Canada, on July 22, 1940. Lucille Trebek, his mother, was a French-Canadian woman of First Nations descent, while George Trebek, his father, was a Ukrainian immigrant.

Trebek left his native country in 1973 to pursue a career in Hollywood. His first major hosting stint, The Wizard of Odds, only lasted one season, and Trebek went on to host another game show called High Rollers in 1974. Simultaneously, he broadened his horizons by hosting more game shows. Trebek became popular to a remarkable degree as the generous and unflappable host of one of the most famous game shows in television history for decades on the air.
